Takuya’s Game Reviews: Karateka
Written by Sensei March 18th, 2009 at 2:13 am
I would like to introduce you all to Takuya. He is one of my best friends and an overall awesome guy. He is a real life Karateka (practitioner of karate) and an Oita Prefecture champion. He is also a retro gamer and he agreed to let us film him playing the Famicom version of the game Karateka. He was pretty shy about speaking English, but I think he did a very good job. If you like the video, maybe he will do more. Enjoy.

I played that game before. I think the object of the game is to proceed to the dojo to the guy in blue. The Guy in blue sicks minions onto you and you battle your way through. It’s like the hero in some action movies.

Maybe for somebody just trying to beat the game. A REAL Karateka knows that it’s more important HOW you play the game. And that means bowing and getting kicked in the nads a lot. That’s what makes it an art.

Great review! I remember playing this back in the day on the APPLE IIc. Had revolutionary animation back then!

The real bitch (no pun intended) is if you don’t bow to the princess before rescuing her. She’ll knock you out with one hit, making you wonder why she just didn’t kick her captor’s ass and leave on her own!

LOL @ Kimura Kaela. Will that be the theme song for these reviews?

Yeah, it’s Takuya’s favorite artist.
