Deceptive Shipping: How Much are you Paying?
While I was playing around with Rising Stuff’s shipping rates the other day, I had the idea to check out some other online stores to see what they were charging. The results surprised me. Many game sites were charging up to twice as much as shipping actually costs! Even the big boys were in on the game.
But how are you supposed to know how much it costs to ship a package from Japan? I mean, it is all the way on the other side of the world. I guess it’s a good thing I live here. Here’s the shipping rates for Air Mail and EMS to America and Japan as well as a comparision of costs for shipments of games.

This Week on the Storefront: Restocking and Games of First Love
This week Rising Stuff did most of it’s work behind the scenes. With more orders coming in than ever before, we needed to reorganize our stock rooms. We are in the process of putting everything in alphabetical order. When we were only dealing with an inventory of around 2000 items it was enough to sort them simply by console but now as we have pretty much doubled our inventory in the last few months we needed a better system.
Also this week we started getting the first shipments of what will be growing Playstation and 3DO sections. Look for these to be going up on the site soon.
And then there is our ongoing battle to keep PC-FX games in stock. We keep reordering them but often they are sold before our shipments even arrive. We were, however, able to restock 12 titles this week and every PC-FX game should be back in stock in the next two weeks. That is if people stop buying them the moment we list them. Along with the PC-FX restocks we were also able to get something our store hasn’t had before:
This game is called Zoku Hatukoi Monogatari-syugaku ryokou and it is a very adorable simulation game. A young boy and girl are in love and you nurture that relationship through several stages of life. The characters start out in elementary school and you follow their lives though middle school, high school and college. I’m a fan of the art style myself. What’s more, this copy that we acquired comes with the original VHS video released by NEC to promote this game. We will sell them both as a set when we get around to listing them.
This week on the storefront: Prepping for Christmas!
Hi everyone! Man have we been busy the last week! We know all you gamers are starting to put together your Christmas wants list and we’re preparing for it. Just check out the items we’ve picked up. Mad props to whoever can name them all.
This week on the storefront: October 26th
Sensei and I were real busy all last week getting the new site ready to take off. We’re pretty much there we think. We finished most of the modifications to the chat room (still have a few quirks to work out before launch), and the content is really starting to bloom thanks to our great mods and writers. The launch date is going to be soon, Tuesday, October 29th at 6 PM Central time (8 AM Japan time), so look forward to that.
Despite our busy schedule with the website, we had a bit of time to do the part of this job we love the most: Game hunting. And we really found some cool things! Read on for more details.

Hey everyone. It’s been a busy but fun week. Kevin and I managed to head down to a couple new recycle shops and found some great stuff. A few loose MSX titles (Castlevania, Palodius, Aliens) and a few Famicom Disk System disk cards (Super Mario Brothers 2, Castlevania, a special edition of Galaxy Wave, Legend of Zelda) were good finds but what made our day was when we found this:
